…Pero la vida de cualquier ser vivo no comienza con su propio nacimiento:

es mucho más antigua.

-Emanuele Coccia, Metamorfosis: la fascinante continuidad de la vida

In his latest exhibition at Recinto Cerra, Jaime Rodríguez Crespo showed a series of sculptures based on a natural element usually relegated to the background of the everyday landscape.  The “cadillo” or “pequeque” (a type thistle): sub-protagonist or secondary actor easily forgotten when the mountains, patio or garden is evoked.  Picking up a previous investigation where natural forms adopt and adapt artificial means, Rodríguez Crespo adjusts the focus in a kind of sculptural zoom to the Claes Oldenburg to enlarge the scale of thistles inviting us to be amazed by the appearance and formal complexity of these frugal seeds always in transit and rarely observed in detail.

Medium:

Wood, foam, denim fabric, plastic and polyurethane
